Cuban Social Night - Full Review
One word review: Classy.
Full Review:
The place: If marble floors and moody candles are your fancy you'll appreciate the dome shaped venue that hosts the Cuban Social Night every Friday, at the Latino House, Murooj Rotana Hotel, Dubai.
The dance floor: Stretched across half the running length of the dome, it embraces a staircase baroque style down to another restaurant, and washrooms which were especially clean, at least the one i went to (men). It can fit 50 dancers comfortably, and when the DJ turns up the heat, space may become your most important asset. Not a congress hosting venue but it offers enough classiness that offsets the somewhat tight dance floor.
The Music: At the cuban social night, you'll be transported into space and time to where the salsa music was born: Cuba. Documentaries on cuba run on a LCD screen, complimenting the guaracha habanera and cuban sounds joyfully played by Del Piero. Mixing between fast and furious, and slow and melancholic tracks, both advanced and beginners find their comfort. A not too crowded bar comes handy for those hardcore sweating dancers.
The Atmosphere: At a cuban social night, that's one of the things you'll also be doing: well, socializing. And there's lots of options to do it. You can lounge comfortably on old style sofas watching scenes of Cuba, or chat at the nearby bar, or have a short break at the open air plaza in front of the entrance. It's not all about just dancing there, you can also talk as the music plays at a comfortable level and meet with other dancers coming from abroad.
I also noticed something i kind of missed. Everybody was smiling, was it the music, the venue, the joy of celebrating cuba in all its glory? i don't know.. but it was there, omnipresent and always reminding us that this is what salsa is all about.. having fun.
The organizer: Del Piero - Ritmo de Havana. Find him on facebook or www.ritmo-de-havana.com
Another special night offered by Del Piero is Salsa con Timba night at Ciro's Pommodoro, Le Meridien Mina Siyahi, every Monday night. Full review soon.
Overall I can say that the Cuban Social Nights at the Latino House is a really great place to spend some quality time with great people on Friday nights.
